What is Direct Debit?

Direct Debit is one of the most convenient and easiest ways to pay. You pay an agreed amount each month directly from your bank account and your payments are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

You don't receive a bill, but you'll get an annual statement detailing your energy consumption over the year. We'll review your consumption and payments on a regular basis and will always let you know if we need to change your monthly amount to reflect your usage.

And now, with our online Direct Debit Manager tool, you can choose what you want to pay each month. The tool allows you to view your energy usage and adjust your payments to suit your needs. To use the tool you'll need your current meter readings to hand.

How is my Direct Debit calculated?

We'll estimate your 12 monthly payments based on a number of factors:

  • How much energy we think you'll use over the next 12 months, based on your previous usage.
  • Your energy prices and discounts, including any price or tariff changes on your account since your last assessment, such as the end of a fixed price tariff.
  • Any credit or debit balance on your account.
  • Any seasonal changes that may mean you use more energy in the winter and less in the summer.

Meter readings

Because your Direct Debit payment is based on your energy consumption, it's important to give us your meter readings regularly. They can make a big difference to the accuracy of your Direct Debit.

To help you budget, we'll aim to keep your payments at a similar level throughout the year. This may mean that you're in credit during the summer months, which then offsets higher usage during the winter.
