Gordon is a Community Manager here on the ScottishPower Community, you can find out a bit more about what that means in my blog. Basically we are both here to make sure the Community is useful for you in keeping with the Community Guidelines.
Hi Gordon, what else do you do here at ScottishPower?
For the past few years I have also been responsible for our socal media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube which has been really interesting. It has allowed me to get really close to what our customers are looking for from ScottishPower and use this to make improvements in how we do things here. The Community is a really exciting addition to this and we really hope that it will be a great place for all of our customers to come together and share their experiences and knowledge with each other.
I have also recently become involved in Digital Innovation here at ScottishPower and we have some really exciting projects planned to bring new features and functionality to our website and mobile apps, and who knows in the future it might even be something completely separate to an app or website! The range of devices we communicate with now are starting to change with the introduction of in home assistants like Amazon's Alexa and Google's Home device. It will be really interesting to see how this develops and we will certainly be listening for how our customer's want us to let them manage their energy through these devices!
What were you doing before you joined ScottishPower?
After I finished school I spent a year working full time for Marks and Spencer before going to university where I stayed on at M&S in various part time roles. After uni I stayed with M&S for a few years as a supervisor and then Team Manager working in the food hall. I spent most of my time in the same store which was great as you get to know your customers really well. It took a bit of time getting used to leaving a busy store and moving to working in an office environment with ScottishPower but now I love it, I still get to know our customers just as well through social media, the Community now and the occasional face to face meetups (Which we hope to have many more of with our Community members in the future!)
Who else do you work with here?
Being a Community Manager for ScottishPower is great because not only do we get to meet so many great people here on the Community! but we also work with a lot of different people inside ScottishPower, after all we need to know a wide range of topics to be able to help all you amazing people! We have also lined up some internal experts to contribute to the Community for when Eilidh and I don't know the answer (we don't know everything - although we do try) so keep a look out for the ScottishPower employee badge next to our names, it looks something like this:
What is the best bit about working at ScottishPower?
The main reason I joined ScottishPower was down to our commitment to clean energy, I am a big fan (pun intended) of Renewable energy and personally believe it is the only way to provide a sustainable future for the generations to come. Working at ScottishPower has given me the opportunity to work on some cool clean energy projects including our Renewable Energy Fuel Gauge, helping the amazing team at Whitelee Windfarm to redesign their visitor centre and even a project working with the United Nations Global Compact to help tackle climate change.
What would you be doing if you weren't at ScottishPower?
I would have loved to be an architect. I think buildings these days lack of a lot of character, the intricate thought and design that was put into a lot of older buildings is missing. I guess that's through money and time pressures but I would love to change that.
Tell us something interesting about yourself
I've been told I've got a bit of a hidden talent for making cocktails, specifically Caipirinha's.
