Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Luke in to our office for what turned out to be a short 6 weeks. Luke was here to find out what it is like to be a User Experience designer here at ScottishPower. I sat down with Luke to find out a bit more about his time here.
Hi Luke, first of all tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a student with an interest in User Experience Design (UX)😎, and I've been working with ScottishPower’s Digital team over the summer.
It's great to have you here Luke! What projects did you work on while you were here?
While at ScottishPower, I was given a few interesting projects to work on.
First i was given the task of assisting with designing a landing page for the new Electric Vehicle project within the ScottishPower website ⚡️
I then helped out with prototyping the new refund process for our call centres ☎️
And then, the big one came along, I was given a project of my own. I was handed the task of redesigning PowerUp, ScottishPower's pay in advance app! This involved re-thinking the entire app from scratch. I loved the responsibility involved with this project as I was trusted with every aspect of delivering a new project, from developing a strategy to presenting my work in front of the management team!
Finally, we got in touch with Google and their Digital Garage. I had the task of designing the social media posts to advertise the event and also create a Snapchat filter for it 👌 It was great experience being able to aid in promoting an event partnered with Google!
What was the thing you enjoyed most about working here?
Coming into work every morning has definitely been a change from waking up at 2 in the afternoon 😂 And although its taken some getting used to, it makes me determined to improve everyday as a designer👨🎨
I loved working with the ScottishPower Digital team, it was great to work with so many talented people that inspired me everyday!
Has your time here changed what you want to do after finishing school?
Before I found UX design, I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career. I would look on endless amounts of job sites, looking for something that slightly took my interest but to no avail 👨💻 I knew I wanted to do something to do with design, but no idea what.
Now that i have spent my summer working full time as a UX Designer for ScottishPower, I have the motivation to find the right job as a UX designer…
After working here for a few weeks, what would you say to anyone else thinking about a career in User Experience?
I would highly recommend looking into a career in ScottishPower, it is a young and exciting team with a lot of fantastic ideas. Everyone is extremely helpful and always makes time to help where they can!
It was great working with everyone, I made a lot of friends during my short period of time at ScottishPower😇 I hope to be back soon!
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience Luke, it's been great having you here and we hope to see you back in the near future!
