Meter reading company

posted by Mrs-G | 5 months ago
I just had a man knock on the door to get a meter reading, I asked for ID and let him in.
He informed me that I can set up a password, which he will see on his screen upon arrival, to ensure that he's from a reputable company. He told me to ring Scottish Power to set it up.
I rang, but ScottishPower couldn't set up a password. Does anyone know how to do this?

Re: Meter reading company
@Mrs-G It's called The Priority Services Register. If you ring Scottish Power and tell them you would like to be enroled on it they should take it from there and tell you what to do and how to go about it.

Re: Meter reading company
@Jonnel Thanks, I'm already part of the Priority Service Register and discussed it with them on the phone today, so not sure what to do

Re: Meter reading company
@Mrs-G Scottish Power have a fragile relationship with their meter-reading sub-contractors so it doesn't surprise me that they're not singing off the same hymn sheet.

The number for The PSR used to be 0843 770 5075, so you could give that a try but it's a pay number, so beware how long they keep you on, even if they answer (or if its even still connected).

Failing that, I would suggest not letting anyone in who claimed to be a meter reader until the Scottish Power helpline can actually help you. That might chivvy them along a bit.

Re: Meter reading company
SP have nearly £300 of my money. Asked for a refund need a meter reading. I’m on the vulnerable customer register. SP organised a reader but then said they couldn’t make the date! They suggested I get a neighbour to help!!! Why is everything to do with this company so hard? If I could I would leave them but of course need the meters to be read first!!! 😫🤯😡🤗

Re: Meter reading company
@Annemarie You do not have to provide meter readings to claim a refund from an account that's in credit, unless you're on a specialised, or a specific credit-dependant arrangement. Scottish Power are bluffing you. Call them.

Re: Meter reading company

Scottish power refused to involve my father's carers with getting his meters read. The priority register meant nothing to them in this respect and in spite of my telling them not to do so they sent a reader without his support carers present. They had asked for written authority from the carers to be involved and this had been sent but they still went ahead without them present.

This terrified him and they didn't even read the meter properly. I can't see how they could have since the carers had the only keys to the garage ... it being to dangerous to have my father messing with meters. I have of course complained, but they have ended the complaint without sending a deadlock letter to me ... sent one to an email address which isn't mine. Thinking about the Ombudsman but they too are a waste of space.

My father was 99yrs old, very deaf and had advanced dementia but Scottish Power didn't give a hoot about him. He died last November aged 100yrs - without us succeeding in getting his meters read.
