New Customer - already have Smart Meter

I've just switched to SP, but already have  Smart Meters that were installed when I was a customer of BG. Although I never managed to use tham to save fuel (warmth, light and hot food are in my view a necessity!) they were good in that I could keep track of how I was doing against my DD! How soon do SP realise I have them, or do I have to contact them in some way!

Hi John. You will have to send meter readings to SP from the BG smart meters. Your in home display will still work normally. At some time in 2019 meters will be upgraded remotely to send data to any supplier.

i had a smart meter fitted by extra energy before they closed,do i have to give meter readings

SP cannot read your EE smart meter, you must send in readings, press 9 on the meters to see the figures. You will get a big bill because it is 7 months since EE closed and you have not paid to SP.

I aready have a Smart meter fitted by E-On, my previous supplier. (I have now submitted initial meter readings)

Will SP be able to read this meter remotely in future?

@UncleTid  Yes SP can read it soon if it is a Smets2 version, and later in 2020 if it’s Smets1. Meanwhile send manual readings to avoid estimates.

Today 1.11.19 I enquired of SP if now fitting SMETS2, as this was reported in press. They are not, the vans still have SMETS1 on them. Nowhere on this site does SP state this despite several customer queries made online to them.

@wallace   That is interesting to know.  SP have 4 major contactors who have their own stocks of meters, so it is chance which type get installed, most of the new meters are Smets2 but some Smets1 are still in the system and will not be ‘thrown away’.  Nationally 12m Smets1 meters were installed and Smets2  installations are now somewhere around the 3m level. 

All the Smets 1 meters will be remotely upgraded during 2020 so that they send readings to a central computer that any provider can access.

I have an npower smart meter and dint know where or how to find meter readings to submit to new supplier Scottish power
Help please I don’t want a big bill
