May 2018 and by July I had used 268 , by Sept I had used 680 and by Dec I had used 1868. And in Feb this year I was at 3411 , it now sits at 4011 Then reading on 28 Feb was 1235

This is a quote from your message, so was Feb 3411, or 1235 ? Where are you taking these numbers from? I suspect your confusion is arising from errors on the hand held display and the App. The true meter readings are on your gas meter and are in units of cubic metres. Your bill from SP should give details of the readings and costs.
Also what did you mean when you said your costs had tripled? Was this on the hand held display? If so those numbers cannot be trusted.
Ok , so I decided to look at the issue a different way. The average Gas useage across the uk is as below:

Hello Eddie. Thanks for the table. The columns are a bit mixed and confusing but I think it says your annual kWh gas usage is about 80k compared to a normal high of 18k. That is impossible and something has gone very wrong. You need to tell SP to investigate, but if these readings are from what you are sending in it could possibly be that you are not reporting the meter readings correctly. Either way you need to discuss with SP 0800 027 0072.
Just a thought Eddie, if you are sending in kWh instead of cu.m your readings would be 11X too high, sort of makes ense if you divide all your data by 11?

SP are taking the readings directly from the meter.
Pre Smart meter I logged my readings almost every mth however since the S.M was installed SP have taken them.
Hi Eddie, Then that is the problem, the installer has set up the system to report in the wrong units, you could check on the meter yourself to confirm this. Please report it to SP who will have to send the installer back to correct the meter.
Hello Stefan. The most likely explanation is that the App is using bad data. Check the real situation by sending a manual meter reading, this will raise a bill which will show you the correct balance on your account. It might be also that your smart meters are not transmitting correctly so check if SP have been using estimated readings. Don’t worry too much, you probably do not owe that much money.
We have got the same problem, unbelivably high usage of gas for April, in March we paid £39 pounds for both electricity and gas and now we suddenly need to pay £124!!!! We have been away a few days in april and we turned the heater off every day during the day time. So we expected a bill much less than £ 39 for March, instead we got 3 times as high!!! We lived in this house for 3 years and we never paid more than £98 for both gas and electricity and it is during winter months!!
