Why does my online statement show a negative balance when I am on a Prepayment Meter?

I have a standard tarif on a prepayment meter and I have never been in a negative balance. However, my account is always showing a negative balance after all the prepayments have been accounted for. Is this because there is a syncronisation error on the account? 

A third party company signed me up to switch my account a few years back, (it was an error caused by an old neighbour using my address to change their provider upon moving into the flat above me), and it took you a while to correct the issue. Could this be the problem?
