We’re developing new smart tariffs that can help cut your costs while building a greener energy system for the future. Using peak and off-peak rates, they offer cheaper electricity at different times of the day when demand is low.
Our smart tariffs are beta products, meaning they use cutting-edge technology that we continue to improve. If you’re always ahead of the curve, come join us on a journey of innovation. You can switch to one of our other tariffs anytime, at no extra cost.
Are smart tariffs available to everyone?
Right now, our smart tariffs are only available to a limited number of customers. Once we finish the testing phase, they’ll be available to all customers with an eligible smart meter. So, if they’re not currently available to you, please keep checking back.
What will you need?
Smart tariffs rely on us receiving half-hourly consumption data – so you’ll need a SMETS2 smart meter or a ScottishPower SMETS1 meter.
How do they work?
With a smart tariff, you’ll have two different rates for your electricity:
Energy demand in the UK is typically lower during the off-peak times of our smart tariffs, which means that the cost of energy during these times is also lower. By moving some of your energy usage to the off-peak hours of your chosen smart tariff, you will be able to benefit from cheaper energy rates. Also, because demand is typically lower during these times, you’ll also be supporting a more flexible energy system.
What are the peak and off-peak times for each tariff?
See the timings for each tariff below. It’s important to note that the timings are based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). However, during British Summer Time (BST), the time periods will change to reflect the new time zone. BST runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
